What this tool does
Grayscale keeps intermediate shades. Black-and-white turns pixels into two tones at your chosen threshold, useful for high-contrast scans but risky for faint ink.
One still image, up to 25 MB, 50 megapixels and 16,000 pixels per side. Animated/multipage inputs use the first frame. Files use the existing upload checks, virus scan, queue and automatic deletion.

Common questions
Is grayscale the same as two-colour black-and-white?
No. Grayscale retains shades of grey; a threshold deliberately discards them.
Which threshold is best?
There is no universal value. Try a copy and inspect faint text and stamps.
Will this OCR the text?
No. Use Image to text separately if you want editable text.
